Amichai’s Top 50/15 I am what I am
I admit: It took me some time to watch Le Cage Aux Folles without self revulsion. Perhaps my own drag career (on hold) helped cultivate self love and acceptance for more faces of me, of us, and also laugh at it all.
At Lab/Shul today I’ll be revisiting my Bar Mitzvah, this Shabbat 37 years ago, and talk back to the Torah that abominates me, – and challenge this dogma, with love, yes, and a twist. So this song by Jerry Herman, that I learned to really love coz life aint worth a damm if I’m not what I am.
