Amichai’s Top 50/39 “I Hear how You Hear”
שָׁמַעְתִּי שִׁמְעֲךָ

“Remember that we are dust. We hear Your hearing, Your deep silence; We are filled with awe.”

My friends from the Diwan Project fill up music halls all over the world with tears and spirit, fusing ritual with sing-a-long, ancient prayers with new beats. I’ve prayed and danced and sang along with them and many of their tracks are on my auto-play for all moods and needs. This one, Shamati, comes from the Yom Kippur liturgy, with modern composition, and is grounding reminder of what is, and what is not, and how much bigger this canvas is, and how humbling.

Shamati features the incredible voice of Dvir Cohen Eraki, a beloved brother and a cantor of many generations of Yemenite origins, who will be joining us at Lab/Shul for the High Holy Days 2019 in Midtown Manhattan. We will focus on awe.

Can’t wait. Hear here.
